is what my brother and i always called her. "knock out grandma".

i traveled home to minnesota wednesday for her funeral. her service was beautiful and i was reminded more than ever what a stunning woman she was. she had exquisite taste, took such pride in her home and wardrobe and everyone loved sitting down for coffee and a chat with ida golub. i loved that most too. long and wonderful conversations about life. i cherish those times and hold them dear. i love you, miss you and hope you are resting peacefully grandma.

i've been away, traveling up the west coast to washington to see family. passed through portland for a minute. that's a trip i want to take several days for. i've been compiling lists & lists of places to visit while there but there's just too many for an overnight stay. its like a sick tease that i'm not willing to flirt with on this journey.

road trips are gnarly. the idea of it is so romantic but frankly driving around for more than 6-7 hours kinda stinks. i guess i just can't hang. that is so my style, to plan the shit out of a trip. idealize about all the tasty and most picturesque places i'll visit then end up just wanting to rest in my cute boutique hotel room, paralyzed by all the over eating i've done. does this make me an uber planner and not so much doer? hmmm, let me think about it and get back to you. i may be on to something here.

i get so giddy on friday nights. its like christmas cuz saturdays are farmer's markets days in my hood. and i'm lucky to live only a few blocks from my favorite market to date. i just love buying local fresh foods. it feels so good and tastes even better. i got to go raspberry picking while in rhode island at the most charming garden center. if i lived there, which i just may one day (its a gem that rhode island) i would pay a weekly visit and fill my yard and gardens with their luxurious plants & shrubs.

we're having a beach day tomorrow and i'm fixin' to make this delicious capellini dish by ina garten for dinner. i love the barefoot contessa! this recipe calls for lots of fresh herbs and veggies that i'll snap up from the market. yippee. ooooh, and this virgin sangria looks mighty tasty. done!

its my goal to start cooking more. i've been compiling summer recipes and planning meals i'll never make on pinterest (my current addiction and i think the best visual bookmarking site ta boot). this book looks like a goodie. oooh, and i got super jazzed when i found this farm in malibu. i think this is the perfect mid-week activity to boost my fridge and earthy spirit! wishing you a tasty, sweet weekend. xo

its august. i'm just starting to feel this summer thing. oozing into it as deeply as i can. i'm just getting back from a dreamy east coast getaway, felt like the epitome of summer. lots of sun, magnificent beaches, popsicle making and music on an island i fell fast in love with. it was heaven.

getting home now i've got magazines in my mailbox with fall fashion, fall colors all over the covers. heck no, i'm not ready. they're going into a stack until september.

summer lovin...

i've been away since fall. and oh, what 8 months of change it has been. you see, a chapter of love lost was ended. and a chapter of new and the most surprising love found began. its a crazy love story, one that i've told over and over. and feel so lucky to have such wonderful and open people in my life to share it with. i'm gonna come out with it already and spill the beans right here & now. I'M IN LOVE WITH A GIRL!!! and her name is rachel. and she has reminded me that there is magic in the world. and that love truly is all you need. that the unkown can be the most wonderful gift and if we just stay open and listen, anything can happen.

as summer begins to trickle in, and i say trickle because its been darned cloudy and gloomy here in santa monica, i feel myself surrendering to its ways and the yumminess that it brings.

a man, who i just adore beyond words, happens to be rachel's father and quite the magic maker himself. he sent over this most beautiful note to his daughter reminding her to be patient during this transitional time and i think it is so stunningly beautiful, so appropriate for summer and words to live by.
